How to dim negative emotions

Negative emotion

We live immensely through our emotions. That’s a fact.

So much that it becomes extremely difficult to do something we decided if our emotions tell us otherwise!

Our stories, past life, experiences, make us feel some emotions each time we experience certain things. Those emotions act like a memory of our past experiences to guide us through the new ones.

But when those emotions are clearly preventing us from living how we want, from being happy, that causes a real problem. We are like in a trap we can’t escape!

It becomes very important to be able to dim those negative emotions, so that we can take again the control of our life.

There are 2 main axes on which we can (and we must) play.

1- Deny the reality of those emotions

Emotions are always based on a story, a perceived reality, a belief system. We can rationalize the situation and state that those emotions are not well-founded.

That won’t remove the emotion. But at least can we now decide to remove our attention from it, and stop to nourish it.

Emotions stay alive as long as we sustain them. They will fade away if we don’t.

2- Create new emotions

The emotions won’t be necessarily created right away. But even if that’s the case, we want to create them on the long term, so that we change what’s automatically happening in a given situation.

For that we need to focus our attention on what we decide, no matter what our emotions are. And we need to continue to decide again and again that the only thing we are interested in is our new story.

It is not something easy, especially at first. It requires a good deal of energy. But it works!!!

For that you need to create a new story, a new scenario of your life. What is the ideal situation you want? Describe it to you, make it real in your mind, dream it! Talk about what you want (even to yourself) and make things as precise as possible. Repeat what you want, knowing that this possibility also exists! The more you focus your mind and all your attention on what you want, the more you’re going to find ways to build it.

The more you are actually building it. Attention = creation.

3- Combine those 2 conditions

The first is going to help focus your attention on the situation you really want. Now focusing your mind elsewhere is going to help the negative emotion to fade away. Which in turn is going to help focus your mind on what you want, etc…

First you need to create a new inertia, and to let the initial inertia (the negative emotions) fade away. So that will require most of the energy right away. That is for several days, or even weeks… But the more you invest yourself in those first moments (that seem useless!) the quicker you’ll get out of those bad moments!

You are free to change whatever you want, and the system to change it is always the same. But you must understand that the emotions that have been created previously have to fade away while you are creating something much better.

Which means you must make do with them in the same time you’re focusing elswhere.

That’s all the challenge!
But you can do it.
And it works…!!!
