Find your values, and invest fully in it

I’m really enthusiastic about my new activity: salsa dancing! I realize how important it is for me, not only to be able to express myself through a physical activity (which I used to do with judo) but also to be able to dance!

I’ve invested myself a lot for the 5 months I’ve danced. I have videos of dancers that serve me as models in order to know what I’m aiming for. I’ve chosen my teacher much in the same idea. And I’ve been looking for several ways to improve myself as much and as quickly as possible.

But after those few months, which have been very efficient, I can notice that I’ve kind of settled, at least in my head, for a certain level of practice. A level which was very good just a few months ago, but don’t allow me to continue to aim for what I really want!

And I notice that for a lot of things I am very complacent about what I do as soon as I get some first results. Then things become kind of lukewarm. I’m not as invested, I aim for less improvement, and I’m already looking for results elsewhere.

I come back to my dance. I know that’s something very important for me. And if I don’t put the energy and focus in order to continue to move forward as I want, things are not going to be that well. I’ll be good enough to show that I’m pretty competent and that I can be proud of me, but that’s it. I definitely won’t be where I want to be! And that’s a totally different story!

Now we’re always looking for ways to have a better life. To be happier. And I think we completely overlook what has a real value for us. And there are two kinds of problems here:

  1. Something is really important, and we clearly don’t invest ourself and focus to the level that we really desire
  2. We try to find what we are missing elsewhere in order to compensate for some lacks instead of looking what we really want

That’s why I do think a huge part of the solution to the life we truly want to experience has to do with:

  • knowing what really has the biggest value for us (in different areas of our life)
  • focusing on those values and developping them widely

Only at this moment do we experience the life we want, and do we feel alive and fully ourself.

It is not about succeeding at any goal that makes us happy. But it is when we are truly ourself and we express ourself fully!

And that’s not just an idea we need to approve, but a focus to develop everyday in order to create what we have chosen.
