It’s actually very easy to choose your mood. We often let ourself believe that there is little we can do to act on it, and that the external world is mostly responsible for our “life”.
But I dare you to try (something you have very certainly already been able to do in some circumstances) to act on that. It is precisely because it feels difficult to change that we don’t take any kind of consistent action to change that!
Now if you have realized you actually keep all your free will to choose your next action. It has nothing to do with how you feel. It is only a matter of choice.
What we feel tend to focus our attention on everything that relates to this feeling. That’s precisely where we think we are completely powerless. Now nothing prevents you from choosing what you’re doing. Even though you don’t feel it, you still know that you can make a choice which is not consistent with what your feel, but has only to do with a realistic choice. A choice now based on a larger reality. Not any more on what you feel and so on the part of the world that relates to it, but also on things that you know -but don’t feel- are real.
A very simple, yet efficient action: put some music you really enjoy, that you play when you are really enthusiastic and full of energy. And I’m not saying you will want to listen to it… Just make the choice to play it, and then to let yourself connect with all the good vibes it makes resonate within you.
Actions create experiences. Experiences create emotions.
Your only question is then: do I want to let my negative feelings take control, and ignore every other parts of my life (even though it feels like there is nothing else)? Or do I choose to take action and create a new experience (which can seem difficult, but only seem).
Don’t let the stories in your head dictate what your life must be today. Choose for yourself what you want in your life!
